Yellowstone is without a doubt one the biggest ecosystem of its kind on planet earth, from hidden valleys never mapped, to canyons over twenty miles long. Massive grasslands too, more than enough to sustain thousands of buffalo, as many as seventeen rivers covering the wilderness there, and wetlands covering over ten percent of its back country. The largest high altitude lake on this continent, and over 20 great peaks over ten thousand feet high. Last but not least, the worlds greatest super volcano, a ticking time bomb waiting to happen on two million acres of wilderness. Yellowstone.
Several bloggers are talking about it going boom. Even posting videos of buffalo running down the highway in fear.
Chile just experienced a massive earthquake followed up by a tsunami that has the city of iquique on edge, causing more than 900,000 people to be evacuated from Chile’s coastal region. And as earthquake activity appears to be picking up around the world its not totally out of the question this could happen, however unlikely.
“Whether I believe this, or whether I don’t believe the story or not, I don’t know. I can tell you this story I saw this morning about the buffaloes running the street … whether or not it’s because of any activity in Yellowstone or not, I don’t know,” said blogger Jay Lee, who posted a story on his site tatoott1009.com.
“But I’ll tell you this, whatever the case may be, that their running away from Yellowstone is an alert of some sort.”
Chances are these bison were spooked from the 4.8 earthquake that just hit there Sunday. Yellowstone’s super volcano may never go off in our life time, but it is worth keeping an eye on just in case our worst nightmares come true and Yellowstone blows red hot rock over much of North America.
What would we do if a nation ever found a way to set off a super volcano to weaken a country it seen as an enemy? Think about that long enough and it could change your address. Some experts believe if it does go it could start a chain reaction that would set off even more dormant volcano’s, blacking out the sun, and suffocating nearly all life in the United States.
